On Saturday the 21st of November, the preselections for the European championship free jumping for two-year-olds took place in ‘het Azelhof’ in Lier. According to the regulations the best 20 mares and best 20 stallions would be selected for the final during the Christmas jumping in Mechelen. We registered Havana Quality. Havana Quality is the daughter of Clarence C (half-brother of Casall la Silla) from the mare Samsara (full sister of Stakkato). Havana earned 22 points for exterior and 48,4 points for jumping, which makes a total of 70,5 points and puts her on the 16th place. Good enough for the final one would think. Nothing is further from the truth! The organizers decided afterwards that only the best 15 could go on to the final… and there we were as 16th. And what about the regulations?? These were violated just like that. So we called chairman Peter Bollen. “Oh well, is that in the regulations? Where? Anyway, we stay with our decision.” said the chairman. Not caring about the rules caused the fall of the Roman Empire at the summit of its glory! Hopefully the succesful jumping of Mechelen doesn’t follow the same path.
